Dirt, Orchards, Gardens, Ecology (DOGE): the Garden Club

$25.00

New Tradition Farm is all about taking a hard look at paradigms that don’t serve us well and reimagining them in the service of community, ecology, and a more just and delicious food system. In that spirit, we introduce our new “special initiative:” Dirt, Orchards, Gardens & Ecology (DOGE)— The Garden Club.

The concept:

Have you ever wanted to grow your own staple crops like corn, beans, and squash, but feel overwhelmed at the prospect? Alternatively, are you a relatively experienced gardener who would like to pick the brain of a professional farmer and take your skills to the next level? Do you want to get your hands dirty doing something to help your neighbors (and yourself) while spending time with others? Would you like to take home a sampling of fresh veggies that might be cosmetically blemished but absolutely delicious?

Join DOGE: The Garden Club

Join DOGE: The Garden Club, at New Tradition Farm every other week to glean leftover vegetables from our market garden for yourself and local food access groups, plant and tend a new orchard of fruit and nut trees, plant various staple crops and seed crops that the farm is working to adapt to the local Huntington environment, create habitat plantings for beneficial insects, advance soil health, and enjoy each other’s company. At the end of the season, you’ll walk away with squash, flour corn, and dry beans, for the winter and seeds for your own garden next season. You’ll have gleaned plenty of greens that you can preserve as pesto for the winter months or enjoy fresh. You'll have gleaned lots of greens for local food access groups like The People's Kitchen, Food Not Bombs, and the Williston Food Shelf.

The Details:

The club is open to all, but will be capped at 8 members for 2025, so jump on it! The $25 fee helps cover the cost of liability insurance and materials for DOGE: The Garden Club.

Every other week on Sundays starting April 20 (subject to change if a critical mass prefers Saturdays), we’ll meet from 9am-1pm to glean, garden, and commune with each other and the Dirt, Orchards, Gardens, and Ecology (DOGE) at New Tradition Farm. We’re cutting out “waste, fraud and abuse” in our food system. Join us!
